Thomas clinches fifth title

By Keith Thomas
WARBURTON bowls veteran, Edna Thomas proved that octogenarians can still figure in the mainstream of events when she took out the Warburton Bowling Club Women’s Championship on the weekend.
Thomas took on last year’s champion, Betty Hawkins to win 25/16.
This was a close fought game until Thomas began to move away at the half way mark and went on to win for the fifth time.
In the men’s championship, Leigh Dobson was matched up against last year’s champion Paul Caneva and this proved to be a seesaw match until the finish.
Caneva pulled back from a 9/17 deficit at the 16th end to lead 24/23 but Mr Dobson then secured a two and won 25/24 to give the Warburton Bowling Club another master bowler.
