WARBURTON band Dave Walker and The Blue Moon Lodge will be performing close to home next week.
The band, which is currently recording its second album, will be at Cunningham’s Hotel in Yarra Junction on Friday 7 December.
“Iconic Australian singer/songwriters like Paul Kelly and Slim Dusty hold up a mirror to the national psyche and help us discover ourselves through their music,” says Walker.
It’s that philosophy he has in mind every time he sits down to write a new song.
Through the vehicle of the Blue Moon Lodge, he is adding his own chapter and verse to the great Australian story.
Band member K.V. Ricciuti (vocals/guitars), Mark McNeilly (bass/vocals) Greg Hunt (violin/mandolin and Paul Keane (drums/percussion) have a wealth of experience in their own right with impressive resumes in roots, blues, country, rock and Celtic music.
Walker says having watched Australian culture become gradually eroded and replaced with the worst of what America has to offer, it’s time to reclaim and celebrate the Australian identity.
“I think someone like Slim really showed us how to celebrate Australia and being Australian through music,” he said.
“Although we may get a little bit more raucous than the great man, Slim’s philosophy is the same as ours; take the show out on the road, play great gigs, make great records and tell it like it is.”
