YARRA Junction won the toss and elected to bowl in the under 16 competition, snapping wickets at regular intervals – 1/27, 2/33, 3/34, 4/36, 5/50, 9/96. Best bowlers were J. Nightingale 3/21 and G. Reynolds 3/19.
Chasing 96, Yarra Junction opened with D. Beaven and G. Reynolds and got off to a good start. D. Beaven went for 13 and G. Reynolds batted well for 7. J. Cattanach and J. Oakley put on a good partnership of 47 runs before J. Oakley went out on a well-earned 19. As a few quick wickets fell, Junction needed two off the last over but lost the last wicket just one run short with J. Cattanach making a fine 23.

YJCC won the toss and bowled. J. Fall and Q. Hodginkson opened the bowling. Hoddles Creek lost their first wicket in the ninth over at 1/32 bowled by E. Buckley. C. Bullock broke through in the 16th over at 3/49 caught behind by G. Ferguson.
E. Wadsworth bowled the next batsman in the 17th over at 4/56 and C. Bullock struck again in the 20th to make it 5/57 as Hoddles Creek finished on 5/70 from 23 overs.
Yarra Junction passed Hoddles Creeks score in the 15th over and went on to make 4/100 from 20 overs. G. Ferguson 29 from 23 balls top-scored. C. Spalding 22 from 17 balls. E. Buckley 16 from 26 balls.

THE Yarra Junction Gold v Woori Yallock match, despite being the first, turned out to be a fantastic game for both sides. Yarra Junction won the toss and bowled first keeping Woori Yallock’s score to 4/99 off 27 overs. Stand-out bowlers with a wicket each were R. Boxell, A. Ford, J. Dobson and M. Cooper. Woori Yallock came out firing in the field and Junction fell short 25 runs making 7/74 with R. Boxell top-scoring with 15.

HEALESVILLE won the toss and sent Yarra Junction in to bat. After 8 overs Junction were none for 27 and made 4/48 off 26 overs at the end of the innings. Six batsmen stayed not out, including M. Mallick (16). Healesville surpassed Yarra Junction’s score losing two wickets and went on to make 3/130 off 26 overs. Extras totalled 24 and eight catches were dropped. (Z. Seeger 1/10 off 3, H. Moran 42, B. Taylor 34 and D. Egan 20 were the only batsman to get going. B. Derix 4/39 and J. Crew 4/31 were Hoddles Creek’s best bowlers.

In an exciting finish, Warburton dismissed Yarra Junction for 95 in reply to 9/96. Batting first Warburton started well before losing a wicket at 27.
G. Morris continued to bat well as wickets fell before he was dismissed for 37. A. Woolley came in and batted well to remain unbeaten on 13 and guide Warburton to 9/96 off 24 overs. J. Nightingale 3/21 and G. Reynolds 3/19 both bowled well. Yarra Junction struggled early before a solid middle order partnership between J. Cattanach 23 and J. Oakley 19 looked like guiding Junction to victory. However, tight bowling from A. Calder 4/14 and D. Hajder 3/11 saw Warburton grab a wonderful victory in an exciting finish.
