HEALESVILLE Library hosted a special puppet-making workshop as part of its school holiday program last week.
A group of 20 children and parents gathered at the library on Wednesday, 11 January for the one-hour family-oriented activity.
Eastern Regional Lib-raries’ youth services officer, Sharon Waller, said the school holiday program was about enticing families to use the library.
“We started the day with some storytelling and reading and then the children got to make their own dragon puppet,” Ms Waller said.
“The activities encourage children to develop an interest and attachment to the library and introduces them and their families to books and reading.”
Ms Waller said the program often resulted in the library gaining new members.
“We find the activities stimulate children and lead them to want to borrow books and CDs and to pursue creative interests,” she said.
“The activities are also just good fun for the kids and their parents. It’s a social outing in a relaxed environment and everybody benefits.”
The Healesville Library will host a Banana Buddy Puppet making workshop this Wednesday, 18 January from 11am to 12 noon. No bookings are required.
