Telling a Peacock’s Tale

By Kath Gannaway
YOUNG people with an interest in drama will have an opportunity to see the work of the local drama group when the Yarra Valley Youth Theatre (YVYT) performs in Healesville this week.
The group which works under the name A Peacock’s Tale, will perform Beauty Is A Beast, a family comedy, at the Healesville Memorial Hall on Saturday 15 December, with performances at 2pm and 7pm.
The Warburton group, working as YAVA, has just performed a showcase performance at The Upper Yarra Arts Centre focusing on skills development within the group.
YVYT spokesperson Leasa Strichow said youth and drama is a perfect fit which young people in Healesville and Warburton can take full advantage of with the Yarra Valley Youth Theatre available to them in both areas.
“Both groups allow young aspiring actors the opportunity to develop their creative talents and produce plays, which are then showcased to the wider community,” Ms Strichow said.
“The drama group not only encourages the development of scripts, acting and plays but also allows the youth to develop self confidence, maturity, team work and a greater respect for their local community, qualities that can be carried with them throughout their lives.”
“At the same time, they have a fantastic time,” Ms Strichow added.
The groups rehearse two nights a week.
