A NEW Healesville community group has been formed to tackle the complex issue of climate change.
Communities Combating Climate Crisis (C4) was formed after Healesville Environment Watch Inc (HEWI) organised a public screening of former US Vice President Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth at the Memorial Hall in Healesville.
The group will be officially launched on Sunday, 3 June at the Healesville Community Market, and will include information stalls, an interactive ‘energy explorer’ show as well as live music and give-aways.
Spokesperson Steve Meacher said it was an opportunity to find out more about the global phenomenon.
“Our aim is to communicate with the Healesville and broader community about the climate crisis and the action individual people need to take in order to mitigate the most serious effects of climate change,” Mr Meacher said.
“Everytime we tune into the news or pick up the newspaper there is guaranteed to be something about climate change – it’s an issue we can no longer ignore.
“We’d like to see more information about what we, as individuals, can do to tackle this issue and how we can all make a difference.”
Mr Meacher said a grassroots organic approach to the issue would give people the information to make their own informed decisions.
“We don’t want to foist a lot of unwanted theories and opinions on people but we do want to make information readily available,” Mr Meacher said.
“If people have any questions or concerns they can attend our meetings or come along on one of our excursions.”
On the day people will have the chance to check out electric cars and scooters and take a bus tour of energy efficient homes at Moora Moora in Mount Toolebewong.
They can also bring their electricity and gas bills to sign up for Green Energy on the day and receive a discount.
“We really hope people come along and support us on the launch day because it’s an excellent opportunity to find out what we’re doing to tackle climate change,” Mr Meacher said.
“We want to be a real voice for this community – so come and say hello and find out more about what you can do to make a difference.”
