Celebrating honeyeater revival

FRIDAY, 21 October was a day for celebration for the Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater.
It was 10 years to the day that the first Helmeted Honeyeater chick hatched in an aviary on Woori Yallock Creek away from the natural population in Yellingbo.
“The experiment proved that a wild population could be supplemented by human intervention,” Friends group president Bob Anderson said.
“The knowledge gained in this experiment has helped to improve the latest work where birds have been released at Tonimbuk in the Bunyip State Forest.”
Mr Anderson said the Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater are now looking forward to a successful breeding season at both Yellingbo and Tonimbuk.
