Water grants are now flowing

GOVERNMENT grants for community groups that have developed a project for saving and protecting Melbourne’s water resources are up for grabs.
The grants, offered by the Federal Government’s Community Water Grants scheme, are aimed at encouraging new ways to conserve water.
Shire of Yarra Ranges mayor David Hodgett said the grants, available in up to $50,000 amounts, were a “fantastic” opportunity for community organisations or individuals that have developed a clever water saving idea.
“Although it may be winter, we still need to be mindful of pressures on our water resources,” Cr Hodgett said.
“I encourage anyone in our community with a good water saving idea to pursue it.”
Cr Hodgett said the grants were not just open to environmental groups.
He said schools, service clubs, sporting associations, hospitals, nursing homes and childcare centres could apply.
“Council will assist any group applying for the grants through advice on planning, environmental and health regulations and any relevant guidelines for proposals,” he said.
For more information about the Community Water Grants visit www.communitywatergrants.gov.au or phone Tim Allen at the Department of Sustainability and Environment on 1800 780 730.
Anyone seeking partnership assistance or letters of support from council when applying for grants should phone the environment department on 1300 368 333.
