ACTRESS Odette Joannidis will give an insight into the life experiences of inmates of the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre at Swinburne’s Lilydale campus tomorrow.
Excerpts from the works of postgraduate writing students from the centre will be read by Ms Joannidis, who presented the works earlier this year at the Malthouse Theatre during the Melbourne Writers Festival.
Postgraduate writing courses have been offered to inmates at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre since 2003.
Four of the students graduated in prison last September – three received a Master of Arts (Writing) degree, while one received a Graduate Certificate of Arts (Writing).
Professor of Writing Josie Arnold said that the writings reflected the life experiences of the women.
The free reading is on Wednesday, 8 November, from 5pm to 6pm.
Phone Christine Peterson on 9215 7098, or email to cpeterson@swin.edu.au for further information or to register.
