Summer activity

“GET involved” is the message the Shire of Yarra Ranges Youth Services team is sending to the shire’s tweens, teens and 20-somethings this summer.
Youth Services programs and events coordinator Belinda Chalmers said the shire’s Summer of Fun holiday program was a great opportunity for young people from 12 to 25 to participate in a range of activities and enjoy their summer holidays.
The program will run from 4 to 25 January and is open to young people, who live, work or study in the shire.
“There are so many activities available and everyone is bound to find something they like,” Ms Chalmers said.
Activities range from African drumming and dancing to caving, jewellery and badge making, break dancing workshops with Wicked Force, skate board and BMX tours, a Luna Park visit and even swimming with dolphins in Port Phillip Bay.
Ms Chalmers encouraged P-plate drivers and motorcyclists aged between 18 and 25 to take advantage of one of two-road safety programs on offer.
For just $20 P-plate drivers are able to do a defensive driving course sponsored by the shire and METEC.
Meanwhile, anyone interested in learning to ride a motorbike can take part in a free HART rider-training course.
Brochures are available from any Community Link Centre, however, bookings must be made with Youth Services.
