Steep learning curve for success

MARK and Kristine Wathen established Easy Excavations 12 years ago and it’s fair to say they’ve never looked back.
For Mark, who had previously worked as a qualified electrician and carpenter, the move to landscaping and excavation represented a challenging career change.
It was just the challenge he needed.
The company quickly established a reputation in the Yarra Valley for quality workmanship, reliability and competitive pricing on projects ranging from small private jobs to larger commercial projects.
While constructing private driveways makes up a large part of what Easy Excavations does so well, the company has both the expertise and the equipment to handle an extensive range of projects including drainage works, pathways, retaining walls, footbridges and more.
Steep driveways are a specialty.
The company is also moving into asphalting and dust suppressant treatments for gravel and dirt driveways.
Mark said he loves working the Yarra Valley and is passionate about achieving an outcome which meets, and very often exceeds, the customers’ expectations and his own.
Kristine said getting the planning and groundwork right is often the key to a achieving a successful finished product.
“There is a lot of work goes into some of the jobs, particularly some of the steep driveways which are very much a part of the topography of the Yarra Valley,” Kristine said.
“It’s great to go back 12 months later and see that a really difficult job is the same as when we left it.”
Both Kristine and Mark believe very strongly in providing a friendly and reliable service.
“For Mark an important part of that is putting in the time with people to go through what needs to be done and how it can be achieved,” Kristine added.
