Sober warning to children

INTOXICATED teens are putting themselves in danger after leaving end of year parties in Upper Yarra.
Warburton and Yarra Junction police have been kept busy over the past few weeks picking up drunk young people walking along the Warburton Highway at night.
Senior Constable Doug Fisher of Warburton Police said the problem arises from unsupervised teenage parties where kids as young as 14 are getting drunk.
“Invariably these kids have made no transport plans,” he said.
He said there had been two recent cases of minor property damage around party venues.
“Apart from the aggravation that causes, there are serious concerns for the health and safety of the kids,” he said.
He warned people who host the parties could be held liable if they have supplied liquor to someone who is subsequently injured.
“The bottom line from a police perspective is that we encourage people hosting parties to monitor alcohol consumption, make them invitation only and provide sufficient sober, adult supervision.”
