Police nab five for drink driving

THREE Upper Yarra people were among five drivers caught drink driving by Warburton Police in under a week.
A Millgrove woman in her early 40s recorded a blood-alcohol reading of .07 and a Gilderoy woman in her early 30s recorded .098 when they were picked up on 27 April. A 36-year-old Yarra Junction man had recorded 0.1 five days earlier.
Sergeant Paul Bell said it was disturbing that drivers were pushing the limits. “They weren’t huge readings, but people just have to understand that .05 is the limit,” he said.

A SPATE of attempted thefts from cars and two burglaries have prompted a warning from Warburton Police for Millgrove residents to lock up their cars, their houses and anything else than could be removed.
Sgt Paul Bell said on the same night as a trailer was stolen from Pierre Court, Millgrove, Friday, 27 April, there were attempts made to break into two cars in nearby Winn Street.
Two nights earlier, attempts were made on two cars in Hodge Court.
A mobile phone was stolen from a house in Pamela Street overnight on 25-26 April while the occupants slept in another part of the house, and a vacant house was broken into and damaged in McKenzie King Drive.
“These are opportunistic events and we are asking people to lock their houses, sheds and cars at night and if they have loose items such as bicycles, horse floats or trailers, to secure them with a quality locking system,” Sgt Bell said.
Residents should not hesitate to alert police to any suspicious behaviour by phoning ‘000’ and should advise local police of any attempted, or successful, thefts, he said.

A 12-year-old Warburton boy has been cautioned by Warburton Police following an incident on 20 April in which the screen of the Bendigo Bank’s ATM in Warburton was smashed.
The incident was recorded on the bank’s security cameras.
