THE 23rd annual Gladysdale Apple and Wine Festival took place over the weekend and received plenty of support from the community.
Perfect weather conditions drew thousands of people to the popular festival at Gladysdale Primary School, making it the ideal country-style family day out.
As a celebration of the autumn apple and grape harvest visitors were able to sample apples, juices and wines from local vineyards and orchards as well as pick up bargain produce. But it wasn’t all about apples and wine, other culinary delights included gourmet platters and cheese and devonshire tea which many chose to have as a picnic on the grass.
There was plenty of entertaiment on the day with a wide selection of music, rides and hands-on demonstrations and workshops to choose from.
Music was provided by the Gladysdale Primary School Choir, The Valley of Angels Choir and a local cover band called Pretty Penny.
There was a fierce competition in the battle of musicians with many local school children competing but it was 13 year-old Nicole Livingstone whot took out the $50 first prize with her voice. Runners up included Chantelle van der Linden from Upper Yarra High for her cheerleading performance and Bethany Martin from Hoddles Creek Primary School who performed a traditional African song.
The Yarra Junction Skipping Squad put on a fine show while students from Upper Yarra Secondary College had a Meet the Reptiles demonstration which they conducted throughout the day.
Kids weren’t forgotten either with a bevy of rides and child friendly entertainment including an animal farm, go-karts, jumping castles, mini golf, archery and a bungee trampoline.
Gladysdale Primary School Principal Gary Lewis said the day was a great success.
“A lot of people turned up this year which is a reflection of the strong support from the community,” Mr Lewis said.
“It was definitely a day out for the family, with lots of entertainment and something for everyone to enjoy.”
