TREES had to be replaced and playground equipment repaired after vandals attacked two Healesville playgrounds.
Shire of Yarra Ranges outdoor staff member Vicki Gielen was able to replant one tree but two others had been snapped off at the base.
There was also some damage to swings at the new playground.
James Martin, Shire of Yarra Ranges manager of Community Relations said playground equipment at Queen’s Park was also damaged the same night.
“Although the damage was not significant, it was still disappointing,” he said.
Mr Martin said the shire spent $22,000 in the last 12 months fixing vandalism on playgrounds across the shire.
“This is ratepayers’ money that could have been used to construct new playgrounds or upgrade existing ones,” he said.
The council encourages residents to keep an eye out for any potential vandalism and to report it to the police or the council.
