THE 2008 Melba Festival has received a $13,500 funding boost from the State Government.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Tim Holding said the funds would go towards marketing and promoting the festival, which will be held from 14 to 16 March.
It would attract more intrastate visitors to the region, he said.
The Yarra Valley’s Melba Festival is an annual celebration that showcases the region’s wineries, museums and function centres and brings together an ensemble of renowned musical groups.
The festival, inspired by the magic that made Dame Nellie Melba an international star in the early 1900s, promotes the broader Yarra Valley region and provides an economic boost to local businesses as well as to the wider community.
The inaugural Melba Festival was held in March 2006.
Due to its success the original organisers, the Yarra Valley Chamber of Commerce, opted to conduct the event annually. They also planned to develop it as a major festival within the region.
