Police probing drugs on school bus

YARRA Junction police are continuing their investigations into a quantity of drugs found on a Warburton Highway school bus on 10 May.
Senior Constable Kevin Bishop said two primary school children aged six and seven, travelling on the afternoon bus between Warburton and East Warburton found a small bag of powdered amphetamine. “We are uncertain at what point the drugs were brought onto the bus because it was not cleaned after the morning school run and was not used for anything else during that day,” Sen Const Bishop said.
The bus transports students to and from several primary schools along the Warburton Highway and to Upper Yarra Secondary College in Yarra Junction.
Sergeant Kevin Largue said while the Secondary College had been one avenue of inquiry, and conceded it may be expected that teenage children may have greater access (to drugs) than young children, he emphasised it had been no more prominent in their investigations than any other line of inquiry.
Sgt Largue said the purity of the powder had not been established but estimated its street value could several thousand dollars.
He said police were treating the matter very seriously.
Police want to hear from anyone who can provide a lead to the original “owner” of the amphetamine powder.
