THE Shire of Yarra Ranges has joined forces with the cities of Knox, Maroondah, Monash, Greater Dandenong, Manningham and Whitehorse to form the Eastern Transport Coalition (ETC) in a bid to improve public transport in the east.
The ETC was officially launched on Monday, 10 July at the Box Hill Tram Terminus 109 by Jim Betts, director of public transport for Victoria’s Department of Infrastructure.
Shire of Yarra Ranges mayor Monika Keane said the coalition would work towards improving bus and rail services including creating more effective coordination and better patronage.
“There are a number of issues that need to be addressed in relation to public transport, particularly in the outer regions of the shire,” she said.
“We are a long way from achieving a transport system that is equal to those in the inner suburbs.
“By working together we stand a greater chance of making an impact and we will continue to highlight the issues on behalf of the community until these improvements are made,” she said.
