FORMER Launching Place CFA captain Brian Williams has been presented with a 25 year National Service medal after more than 30 years with the brigade.
Mr Williams retired as captain of the Launching Place brigade in February this year but has since been honoured for his long service.
He moved to Launching Place 30 years ago and was captain for 22 years fighting fires in Victoria and New South Wales including taking on the Ash Wednesday blazes.
Recognised as the ‘backbone’ of the brigade, Mr Williams was also praised for his community spirit and fundraising skills which helped the brigade fund a new fire truck.
Other Launching Place brigade members to pick up awards on the night included Rebecca Williams, James Paterson and Andrew Bligh for 12 years, Anthony Waywood and Elizabeth Williams for 20 years and Geoff Allison for 25 years.
Archery Park owner Amanda Parry said the CFA had done a lot for the community.
“We help them fundraise because we are lucky to have such a great team of people just down the road,” Ms Parry said.
“Whether it’s a car accident, house fire or a state of emergency they’re there no matter what.”
