AT HOME, Yarra Junction who are fourth on the ladder as we enter this the last round before the finals series for season 2006-07, are up against top team Warburton-Millgrove who reached 9/234cc.
Batting was a team effort with Geoff Sharp 51, Brent Summers 32 and Adam Humphries 25 not out, while James Rogers was the front line bowler for Junction Eagles with 6/69, while Dan Lever chimed in with 2/59.
Queen’s Park Healesville was the venue for third-placed Seville to take on the home side who batted first and were dismissed for 208. English 54 and James 53 got a start but with good bowling from Seville’s strike bowler in Travis Selby with 3/40 from a good spell and assisted by Michael Dicello with 2/6 with his little offies.
Mt Evelyn travelled to Silvan, with the home side having first use of the wicket but only managing 165 as the Mt Evelyn attack led by Chris Anderson with 3/34 and Shane Luck 3/42 was far too strong. At stumps in reply Mt Evelyn are 1/47 and should reached the target and retain second place on the ladder.
Scott Reece with a fine 46 was the leading bat in a small Coldstream score of 130 as Wandin’s Gary Frankovic had a top day taking 8/29.
Wandin in reply have reached the score and at stumps are 5/149 with Jason Rowe 65 and Jason Kennedy 32 getting some runs while the Coldstream attack was helped with good performances from R. Scott with 3/26 and Liam Doughty 2/36. Although it is possible that Wandin with an outright could sneak into the final four it is very unlikely.
Woori Yallock, at home to the Yarra Panthers, have amassed 327 runs for the loss of 7 wickets – Andrew Sharp 157, Dallas Spencer 39, Greg Selby 32 not out. Finn Spackman took 2/80. The Yarra Panthers batsmen will need to bat well but as grounds are fast at this time of the season such a score is just a little over four runs per over and well within reach. With a position in the finals up for grabs it should make for a good run chase.
In a day when scores of just on or over 300 seemed to be the normal thing, the highest score was made in the Strachan Shield 3 grade with Seville amassing 7/500 at stumps – Paul Dicello 129, Stu Sculthorpe 110 and Scott Luckhurst 67. This would be the first time for many years that 500 figure has been attained in the YVCA.
