Mayor hosts cuppa for a cause

SHIRE of Yarra Ranges mayor Monika Keane has called on the Ranges community to support the fight against cancer.
Cr Keane will host this year’s World’s Biggest Morning Tea on Thursday, 25 May from 11am to 12.30pm at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre in Warburton.
She said all funds raised would go to the Cancer Council of Australia to help support ongoing research and treatment of the disease.
“Last year’s Biggest Morning Tea raised more than $7 million,” Cr Keane said. “We are hoping that figure can be beaten this year and that the Yarra Ranges community will play a big part in helping set a new record.”
Cr Keane said cancer was the leading cause of death in Australia.
“Cancer affects one in three people, however as a result of fundraising efforts and ongoing research into early detection and treatment, more and more people are surviving the disease,” she said.
“By taking part in the Biggest Morning Tea we are helping build awareness, while at the same time raising money for an outstanding organisation and a worthy cause.”
All members of the community are welcome to attend the morning tea. Entry is via a $5 donation.
