RIVALRIES between today’s superstars are daily fodder for women’s magazines, but they’re nothing new.
The professional jealousies and artistic triumphs between two Melburnian superstars of their day, Dame Nellie Melba and Frances Alda, will be resurrected at an illustrated talk by London-based historian Roger Neill in Lilydale next month.
Neill will examine the rivalry between the two opera stars.
Shire of Yarra Ranges mayor Monika Keane has described the presentation as ‘an opportunity too good to miss’.
The talk, at the Lilydale Athenaeum Theatre, is on Sunday, 9 April at 3pm. Bookings are essential and can be made by contacting the museum on 9294 6313.
Dame Nellie Melba — the legend lives on.
