State grant for volunteers

A $2000 State Government grant will help Heales-ville and Mountain Districts Basketball Association recruit and train more volunteers.
Ben Hardman, Seymour MP, said the association was keen to attract new volunteers to the group to help with organising the competition.
The grant will be used to buy equipment to help make volunteers’ involvement more effective and efficient, he said.
The association caters to more than 250 basketballers of all ages each week and is keen to recruit more volunteers from a range of backgrounds including local business people, parents, community members and local schools.
“The program offers organisations the chance to attract a broader range of people, benefiting both the organisation and new volunteers.”
“In Victoria up to one million volunteers, or one third of the state’s adult population, provide around $1 billion worth of unpaid services each year.
“From coaching kids’ football teams to giving free professional advice and mentoring, to running a local support or action group, volunteers play an important role in building stronger communities.”
