Tackling your inner demons

Tim Connelly, of Lumina Counselling.
DEPRESSION, anxiety, fear, relationship breakdown, divorce, children running amok, teenagers rebelling, substance abuse, alcohol use out of control, your boss giving you grief, your workers lacking motivation, redundancies, downsizing, anger … HELP!!!!
Well, that’s just what Tim Connelly, from Lumina Counselling, wants to do. For the last 16 months, Tim has been offering counselling services to the people of Healesville and surrounding areas.
He has worked with clients from a wide variety of backgrounds and ages, dealing with issues such as those above.
“Probably the main issue I have been helping clients with lately has been relationship/marriage breakdown” said Tim.
“I believe that a stable marriage is the best environment in which to raise the next generation and I will do whatever I can to help couples regain their sense of commitment to their marriage,” he said.
“Unfortunately, sometimes the wounds are too deep and the best I can do is try to help them reduce the emotional damage of separation/divorce. Early intervention is far more preferable with a much higher likelihood of success.
“When two committed people are able to face their issues, forgive their partner and themselves and resolve to work together on their relationship, then that relationship is likely to be stronger and more fulfilling than ever before.”
After more than 27 years working in corporate Australia, Tim moved from a career as an information technology professional to running a counselling practice.
This background in demanding work environments means that Tim can identify with many of the issues facing those in the workforce that are being confronted with change.
“Job for life has been consigned to the history books,” he said.
“The key today is adaptability. Embrace change, rather than running from it or denying it. Your attitude is your choice. You can choose to get angry, upset, or you can choose to see how the change may benefit you and others.”
Tim Connelly is a member of the Australian Counselling Association and the Federation of Victorian Counsellors.
He operates under the ACA Code of Conduct (see www.theaca.net.au for more details).
