Search for president

By Kath Gannaway
HEALESVILLE Senior Citizens Club is like a ship without a rudder and, according to secretary Alma Guest, after more than three decades of service, it is in danger of floundering.
Mrs Guest told the Mail last week that following the death of their president, Margaret Fuller, in February, they had been unable to fill the position.
“Margaret was the glue which held the club together for more than 12 years,” Mrs Guest said.
“We have a secretary, treasurer and some good committee members, but no one is prepared to take on the role of president, which is what we need to continue to operate.”
Wendy Mildren, the co-ordinator of Senior Citizens Clubs with the Shire of Yarra Ranges, said Healesville’s situation is not unique.
She said the loss of the Healesville Senior Citizens Club would have a huge impact on its 26 members.
“All those people would lose their social support,” she said.
A meeting will be held at the Senior Citizens Hall on the corner of Green and River streets in Healesville at 2pm. Newcomers are welcome.
