HEALESVILLE Basketball Association is celebrating a bumper year both on the court and on paper.
A new program will start for prep students in 2007 thanks to ANZ Healesville sponsorship.
Ben Turner, association vice-president, said nearly 200 prep children from St. Brigids, Healesville, Badger Creek, Chum Creek and Toolangi primary schools would receive their very own basketball under the program.
All participants will receive a Healesville Hornets ANZ basketball.
“This program will provide Healesville’s newest school children with a fantastic opportunity to start participating in basketball,” Mr Turner said.
Donations from the Rotary Club and Lions Club in Healesville and sponsorship by Barry Plant Real Estate have provided added benefits including backboards, rings and safety padding in the stadium.
Mr Turner said the association was working closely with Healesville High School, Yarra Ranges Shire, Seymour MP Ben Hardman and McEwen MP Fran Bailey to improve basketball facilities.
“Over the next 12 months we expect some major upgrades to the facilities. All these are great benefits for the Healesville Basketball Association as we continue to provide opportunities for everyone to play basketball.
