Check out bank boss

WARBURTON Community Bank elected a new chairman at its board meeting last week.
Outgoing chairman Bob Murray, who has held the post for the past 12 months, was replaced by Warburton resident Baden Berry.
Mr Murray, who hails from Mooroolbark, had been chairman since the death of one of the bank’s founding members and former chairman Ian De La Rue in June 2005.
Mr Berry, who is also the current president of the Warburton Highway Tourism Group, said he was delighted to have been selected to take on the top job.
“I feel really good about this. I had been the deputy chair for the past 12 months and this is a natural transition for me,” he said.
Mr Berry said he felt honoured to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors.
“Both Ian and Bob were excellent chairman and terrific men to work with so it is a privilege to take on the job after them,” he said.
Mr Berry said the vote to elect him to the top job was unanimous and that he felt he had the full support of the board.
“We’ve had an action-packed year over the past 12 months. It started with Ian’s death, and then the bank bought its building and starting up its own telecommunication business,” he said.
“The year ahead promises to be just as busy and there is a feeling that the best is still yet to come.”
Mr Berry said he had not aspired to take on the role of chairman when he joined the bank but said he was looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
