CHUM Creek Primary School will stage an open day early next month and unveil a range of new facilities for students and staff.
The school, which will celebrate its 110th birthday next year, will host a community celebration day on Saturday, 3 June from 11am to 3pm.
During the celebrations, the school will officially launch its new storeroom, sick bay and kitchen facilities and McEwen MP, Fran Bailey, will unveil the school’s new flag pole.
The school’s Parents Club secretary, Linda Fabb, said the new facilities had been provided through a $48,000 grant from the Federal Government.
“The Open Day will be a chance for the school community to come together and celebrate recent achievements and additions to the school,” she said.
“All community members, and current, past and future staff and students are invited to come and celebrate improvements to the school.”
Ms Fabb said the open day celebrations would include live music, food stalls, family games and school displays.
“Lunch and afternoon will be available, there will be cakes and ice cream, animal displays and even a jumping castle,” she said.
“Aunty Joy Wandin Murphy will also be on hand to perform a ‘welcome to country’ ceremony and Fran Bailey will present the school with a Koori flag.”
The school’s new kitchen, which has been constructed in the former sick bay, includes state-of-the-art cooking facilities.
“The new kitchen will allow the school to better promote healthy eating and allow us to cater for school events and celebrations,” Ms Fabb said.
