HEALESVILLE’S town entrance is set to get a facelift.
After years of discussions between the council and township group 3777, new signs will finally be put up on two of three sites in the town.
The obvious choice for one would be the entrance to Healesville coming from Lilydale, but a decision on the other two, the Black Spur and Yarra Glen, has not yet been made.
Yarra Ranges Council CEO Glenn Patterson said Healesville Community 3777 had been actively pursuing funding sources to upgrade the town entry signage.
He said the council had provided a commitment of $16,000 for two signs.
“Following a question to council’s meeting on 13 March 2012, contact was made with representatives of Community 3777 to understand how they were progressing with the initiative,” Mr Patterson said.
“The group had been able to secure funding of $7000 plus council’s contribution – but based on a quotation they received there was a significant financial gap.”
Mr Patterson said council staff then sought quotes from contractors used by council which were affordable.
Council staff have offered to take on the project on the group’s behalf which would involve confirmation of the design concept, proposed sites of the signs and approval from VicRoads.
