WESBURN Junior Football Club’s players will be able to train at night in winter thanks to a $60,000 funding boost for new lighting.
The funding boost has come from the State Government in partnership with the AFL, and the Shire of Yarra Ranges and the Warburton Community Bank, who are each contributing $20,000.
The $20,000 grant from the State Government and the AFL is part of a joint $10 million Country Football and Netball Program.
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato, who announced the grant last week, said it was an investment in future sporting champions and would improve sporting facilities in the Upper Yarra.
“This is a fantastic acknowledgment of the great work the Wesburn Junior Football Club has been doing to provide opportunities for people to get together, get active, volunteer and have fun,” Ms Lobato said.
“I am thrilled that this vitally important recreation ground will be improved so it is better placed to meet the demands of the local community.”
The club is using its grant towards installing training lights to meet the minimum requirements for training to take place at night in winter.
