FIONA, Andrew and Jake always dreamed of careers in the theatre. As Tickets to Ourselves reveals, they should have been more specific.
Born from years of selling tickets to other people’s shows, Tickets to Ourselves is a cabaret of frustrations – unrealised dreams, boring jobs, and customers who are often, frankly, just dumb!
The irreverent threesome poke as much fun at themselves as the people they are serving as they take their audience through a not-so-typical night behind a box office where the rules of customer service are thrown out, no thought is left unvoiced and no one is entirely safe.
In the theatrical world of Fiona, Andrew and Jake, there are no refunds, no exchanges and no-holds barred or punches pulled.
They have replaced ‘the customer always knows best’ with a new ethos – “If you’re going to buy a ticket, know what you want ‘coz we’re through taking crap.”
It works for them and, judging by the great response to the show at the Melbourne Festival 2005 and Midsumma 2006, it works for their audiences.
Tickets to Ourselves, starring Fiona Hanrahan and Andrew Hall, is on at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre on Saturday, 22 April, at 8pm.
