Man airlifted after car crash

A MELBOURNE man was airlifted to hospital in Melbourne following a single-vehicle crash at Toolangi in the early hours of Monday morning, 12 December.
The man, a 29-year-old from Central Melbourne, was trapped in the vehicle after failing to take a bend and crashing into a tree on a windy stretch of the Healesville Kinglake Road about 2.15am.
Healesville SES members worked for half an hour to free the man, who was treated at the scene by Ambulance Victoria paramedics.
Intensive care paramedic Barry Bates said the man was conscious throughout the rescue, but had suffered extensive chest and other injuries.
“He was talking to us throughout the rescue operation,” he said.
Toolangi CFA captain Ben Rose said the man was travelling from Toolangi towards Healesville.
He said the man, who was driving a late-model, high performance sports car, lost control of the vehicle and crashed on a “low-speed corner”.
Kinglake police are investigating and are asking anyone who saw the vehicle before, or who witnessed the crash, to phone Senior Constable Cameron Caine on 5786 1333.
