THE WINE may be gold-rated, but according to Wally and Judy Zuk, it’s their moggie Katie who gets most of the attention at their Seville winery.
“She’s like the vineyard dog – don’t tell her she’s a cat,” Mr Zuk said.
And fortunately for Katie, she’s had extra publicity work after Five Oaks’ 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon won a gold medal and a trophy at the largest pan-Asian wine and spirit competition of its kind.
“We wanted to see how international panels rate our wine,” he said.
“When it goes internationally with judging from umpteen countries I think you get a more balanced opinion.”
Bottled in mid-December 2007, Mr Zuk said the 2006 vintage really opened up with bottle ageing.
“Our wines like four or five years in the bottle, then you can drink them for the next 20,” he said.
“Since we opened in 1995 we’ve won 90-odd medals … not bad for little people.”
The 2011 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition results were announced in November with a prestigious gala dinner held at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s International Wine and Spirits Fair.
