HEALESVILLE Chamber of Commerce members are as excited as kids in a lolly shop as they count down the days to the Healesville Community Christmas Festival on Thursday 22 December.
“It’s Christmas and we really wanted to do something festive for the town,” said festival co-ordinator Lisa Hennessy.
With the generous support of sponsors Healesville Rotary Club, The Lions Club of Healesville, Healesville Community Markets, Healesville Community Bank and Healesville Toyota, the Chamber has put together a fantastic festival of free activities and some great Christmas shopping.
“We wanted to provide something that will bring the community together in the lead up to Christmas and promote the businesses in the main street,” said Lisa.
She said the chamber had received an enthusiastic response for the festival from the traders and other members who were keen on creating a market atmosphere.
The festival starts at 3.30pm and will run until around 6.30pm
“It is the last day of school, so we are hoping families will start the holidays by coming into town and enjoying the free activities, including the opportunity for the kids to have their photo taken with Santa,” Lisa said.
The chamber has had a special, festive ‘throne’ especially made for Santa to ensure that the treasured Christmas photos live up to what has become a wonderful family tradition … “The kids with Santa, Healesville, 2011”.
The photos will be put on the chamber’s Facebook site and made available free of charge to download … so no need to go “down the line” this year for that special photo!
There will be lots of fun for kids of all ages with street performers, face painting, balloons, lucky dips, fairy floss and horse and cart rides around the town.
With a number of new and interesting shops having opened recently, adding to the already diverse mix which has transformed the main street into a vibrant retail and cafe strip, The Healesville Community Christmas Festival is a great chance to browse and buy for Christmas.
For families who work or go to school out of the town, it is also an opportunity to get together before Christmas, stop for a chat with the local traders, or take time out for a coffee, wine or dinner in town.
Why should the tourists have all the fun?
