MARYSVILLE will celebrate a keenly awaited re-opening on Sunday 6 November when sculptor Bruno Torfs’ new gallery opens.
After two and a half years of tirelessly working to rebuild his dream since the Black Saturday fires, Bruno said he is delighted to open the doors of his wonderful new gallery.
Bruno lost his home, gallery and works in the fires but his determination to rebuild the sculpture garden and gallery has remained strong.
Since 1996, Bruno’s Art and Sculpture Garden has been a source of creative inspiration and enjoyment for people from around Australia and the world.
Many of the people who have helped along the way will join Bruno as he welcomes people in to a gallery he describes as “ .. a new magical space”.
Most of his surviving artworks will be on display in the gallery as they were found after the fires.
Bruno’s new partner and renowned children’s book illustrator Katz Cowley will also be displaying her works in the gallery and launching her new book.
Katz moved to Marysville from Christchurch earlier this year after the February earthquake.
They see the new gallery and garden, more than ever, as a haven to attract lovers of art, creativity and nature.
There will be live performances on the day, including the talented Steiner School Band, and local musicians.
The gallery, at 51 Falls Road, Marysville, will be officially opened to the public at 1.30pm.
