YARRA Valley soccer players have been heading up Victoria in major league games this year.
Five of the senior women’s soccer players were chosen for the Victorian team, with coach Graham Williams chosen to be the Victorian coach and former player Megan Wilson managing the team.
Tessa Kinsella, Casey Wright, Paige Burney, Amelia McRorie and Lilli Walker competed in the Christian Football Federation of Australia National Titles held in Auckland, New Zealand from the 29 September to 4 October.
Yarra Valley Soccer Club secretary Glenda Wolff said the club was going ahead in leaps and bounds.
“The Victorian Team were runners up in the Grand Final to Queensland, but it was a magnificent effort for such a young team,” she said.
The Under 16s had three girls win a place in the Victorian team who also came runners up in the grand final played against Queensland.
Miralda Parker, Eilish Plunkett and Alice Hardinge represented the team in Newcastle, New South Wales at the end of September.
Ryan Wishart from the Under 14 boys’ team also represented Victoria as captain, with the boys convincingly winning the grand final against Queensland in a thrilling game.
Ms Wolff said the players had organised their own fundraiser trivia night to help with travel costs.
“A packed hall on the night was a great success financially and also showed the support of all ages of players and parents,” she said.
“All are safely home now and already eager for the next season to come.”
Amelia McRorie and Eamonn Kinsella both took out Best and Fairest awards for their respective divisions.
