This weekend Warburton-Millgrove Football and Netball Club ventured up to Alexandra, as Alexandra hosted their First Nations Round.
Warburton-Millgrove Women’s Footy team had an away game against Woori Yallock in Woori.
The morning started nice and early with the D Grade.
Alexandra got the early jump with a half time score of 16-9.
Unfortunately things didn’t work in our favour and Alex had a lead of 25-13 at the third qtr time break.
The burns managed to keep Alex to only four goals in the last quarter and shooting eight for themselves, but it wasn’t enough too secure the win.
The final score was 29-21 with Brooke de Pedro shooting eight and also winning the Best on Court medal, Sienna Muir put up seven goals and Maddie Loveless with six.
Tamin Crunden, Sienna Muir and Layla Ata also had top games.
C Grade took the court next, and they managed to have a nice lead at half time of 33-6.
They continued their momentum and skill and took home a nice win of 57-8.
Mel Hancock shot 27 goals and was awarded Best on Court.
Ashlyn Hermansen put up 35 and Cam Holland with seven.
Nicole Winzer, Ashlyn Hermansen and Courtney Lever were also top performers.
A Grade started after C Grade and so did the rain, which had set in for the remainder of the day.
The girls started strong and got a 5-15 lead at quarter time.
The next quarter was much the same, allowing Alexandra to shoot five goals to Warby’s nine.
The game carried out much to the Burras favour and they secured the win of 25-48.
Karly Wappett put up 10 goals and was also awarded Best on Court, Bianca Daniels shot 23, Ashlyn Elliott with seven and Alex Woods with one.
Other star performers for the match were Ashlyn Elliott and Selina Fotia.
B Grade finished off the netball stating just after midday.
Alexandra started strong but the Burras took control and secured a 5-17 quarter score.
The conditions were cold and wet, but they put into practise what they have worked on and had a nice third qtr time lead of 19-52.
The last quarter continued nicely, allowing Alexandra to only secure 3 goals and another 15 for themselves.
They secured the win for Texans 150th and Jordy’s 50th game, with a 22-67 score.
Tayla Ferguson secured 37 goals, Alex Woods with 23 and Jordana Butcher with seven goals.
Chelsea Barnard was awarded Best on Court with Teagan Adams and Gabby Woods also having top performances.
Reserves started the day on field just after midday, also.
They had a nice lead at half time of 6-44.
The rain made for messy footy, but the burras managed to kick away in the second half and secure a nice win of 2.4-16 to 14.7-91.
Marcel Kocher was awarded Best on Ground with Adam Brennan, Mitch Gordon, Peter Patterson, Brett Winzer and Matt Sidari also having good games.
Daniel Hewitt kicked four goals, Nic Toy, Marcel Kocher, Damien Egan, and Matt Sidari all kicked two goals each and Daniel Schlueter and Adam Brennan had one each.
The Seniors finished off the day at Alex with a tough match ahead of them.
Alex got the early lead, securing a 2.4-16 to 1.2-8 lead at the first break.
The Burras regained control in the second quarter and only trailed by three points at the half time break.
A needed reset was had heading into the second quarter and the Burras regain momentum.
The secured 1.3 in the second and left Alex to only grab two points.
They had a eight point leading heading into the last.
The last quarter was much the Burras way, leaving Alexandra scoreless in the last and securing two goals four points for themselves.
The Burras took home the win with a final score or 2.9-21 to 6.9-45.
Tarkyn Nicolandos, Tim McKail, Lachy Hewitt, Brock Caneva, Jack Farrugia and Trent Elliott all secured one goal each.
Tom Baker, Shawn Andueza, Ben Pretty, Nelson Aldridge, Brock Caneva and Andrew Trende were all top performers of the game.
The Women’s Footy team took on Woori at Woori for another tough match set to be had.
The group was wet and slippy, and made for ugly football all round.
The game started Warby’s way, with the team securing 2.1 to Woori 0 in the fist quarter.
They left Woori to only secure four points in the second and held onto a nine point lead heading into the half time break.
The third quarter was scoreless for both teams with Woori grabbing one point in the last and Burras with four.
The team took home a nice win of 0.5-5 to 2.5-17.
Jasmine Enever kicked one goal as well as Emerson Woods.
Katelyn Ruehmer, Emerson Woods, Hollie Eckhardt, Sienna Clarke, Tamika Ferguson and Steph Mackay were all top performers.
