HODDLES Creek broke a 15-year premiership drought when they won the Finger Trophy 2 on Saturday.
After dismissing Gruyere for 161 on the first day the team was confident of making the runs. Captain Bruce Davis led the way with the ball taking 4/29 off 24 overs, Jason Fear did a great job also taking three wickets.
On day two, at 3/39 Hoddles Creek were in a bit of trouble, but Tom Morrison and Bruce Davis took the score to 121, Tom making 60 and Bruce making 29, before Hoddles lost two more wickets.
Harry Derix and Jason Devisser steadied the ship, Harry making 52 not out and Jason an entertaining 32.
Hoddles Creek ended up with a first innings lead of 95 then Davis and Fear took the new ball and the wickets started to fall. All the players knew the 15-year drought was about to be broken.
Hoddles bowled Gruyere out for 62, as was in the first innings Bruce took four wickets and Feary three to cap of a great win for the Hoddles Creek Cricket Club.
Hoddles Creek’s Finger Trophy 1 side also played in the final, but not making enough runs had the team on the back foot for most of the game. Young Sam Williams made 32 in the gutsy effort.

Yarra Junction
Under 12A
Yarra Junction Cricket Club Under 12A ‘Eagles’ were soaring with back to back flags for the 2005-2006 season.
Yarra Junction won the toss against Yarra Glen and chose to bowl. Yarra Glen batted well to score a competitive total of 6 for 144 from 47 overs. Wicket takers for Yarra Junction were D. Chandler 2/22, J. Fall 1/12, S. Bonderenko-Edwards 1/13, C. Hambly 1/15 and L. Youlden 1/25. Catches to Chandler, T. Nightingale, and Bonderenko-Edwards.
Yarra Junction opened their innings with D. Sanders and D. Chandler and were scoring strongly until Sanders (20) was caught behind in the 11th over, 1/31. Chandler was stumped in the next over 2/33.
E. Wadsworth and E. Buckley then had a match-winning partnership with both boys retiring with 30 not out. The 31st over saw Yarra Glen off spinner B. Ashton claim three wickets with Yarra Junction 5/115.
L. Youlden was caught on 7 in the 38th over 6/126. C. Hambly was next to fall bowled for a very good 14, 7/139 in the 42nd over.
At this point the Yarra Junction supporter spotted two Eagles soaring high above the Seville ground, things were looking good for back to back premierships. Yarra Junction passed Yarra Glen’s score in the 45th over with two overs to spare 9/145 and it was congratulations all round to a fantastic team.
Healesville Under 14
Healesville’s Under 14A team won their premiership match with 10 runs to spare against Silvan. Healesville batted safely chasing a good score of 128 by the opposition.
Daniel Rogers took his total runs for the year 484 with another 40 not out. Nick Mende was the player of the final taking three wickets and scoring 15, and N. Hrabe and N. Wilkes also put in good performances.
