Warburton-Millgrove had their first home game on the weekend for the 2024 season, hosting Alexandra.
The morning started with D Grade netball, Alex had control in the first half, being 2 goals up at the halftime break. The Burras then took the game on and were 1 goal up by the last change. The last quarter was a lot more in Warburton’s favour, coming home with a 25-21 win. Holly Cole shot 13 goals and Brooke de Pedro with 12. Isabella Maurici, Casey Hare and Holly Cole were all the top performers for the match.
The Women’s footy team took the field first in the morning against, Officer. They started strong with a 3.6-24 to 1.1-7 halftime score. They continued the momentum and secured 2.5 in the 3rd quarter. The last quarter carried on and managed to keep the win until the end. The final score was 7.12-54 to 2.3-15. Emerson Woods kicked 3, Madi Ward with 2 and Maddi Andueza and Charleen Gray both kicked 1 each. Jade Mewburn, Hollie Eckhardt, Maddi Andueza, Katelyn Ruehmer and Emerson Woods were all the top performers for the day.
C Grade were on next. Taking the court and securing a strong first half with a score of 30-5. They continued along nicely and managed to keep Alexandra to 11 goals for the game and shoot 61 goals for themselves. Mel Hancock shot 24 goals, 23 to Ashlyn Hermansen and 14 to Cam Holland. Courtney Lever, Amy Morris and Ashlyn Hermansen were all top performers of the game.
Reserves kicked off their match at midday, hoping for a win for the 2024 season. The first quarter was strong with the Burras kicking 4.5-29 and keeping Alexandra to 1 point. The second water was much the same kicking another 4.4 and Alexandra kicking 1.2. The Burras carried on the skills and motions right to the end and secured a 19.15-129 to 4.6-30 win. Damien Egan and David Lever both kicked 5 goals each, Brett Winzer kicked 3, Jason De Graaf made a return and kicked 2 goals. Jack Broek, Mitch Gordon, Marcel Kocher and Matt Sidari all kicked 1 goal each. David Lever, Jason De Graaf, Damien Egan, Tarkyn Nicolandos, Aaron Pye and David Bedggood were all named in the bests for the match.
A Grade also had a strong first half. 32-11 was the halftime score, and they managed to continue on right to the end. 64-21 was the end result, with Bianca Daniels shooting 30 goals, Karly Wappett
with 27, Ashlyn Elliott secured 6 and Jessie Hare with 1. Ally Langdon, Bianca Daniels and Indiana Pinnock were the top players for the game.
B Grade finished off the netball, looking for their first win of the 2024 season. Another firing start for the girls with a halftime score of 29-8. They kept the strength going all the way down the court and secured a 61-17 win. Jordy Butcher and Alex Woods both shot 22 goals and Tayla Ferguson with 17. Chelsea Barnard, Sienna Wyatt and Tayla Ferguson were all top performers.
Seniors finished off the day with a tough battle against Alexandra. Alex came out strong kicking 5 goals straight in the first quarter to our 1.3-9. In the second quarter, the Burras were able to put more score against our name, kicking 3.2, but Alex had secured another 4.3 to keep in front with a halftime score of 4.5-29 to 9.3-57. A halftime reset didn’t go as planned and it wasn’t the Burras’ day today, as Alex continued with their strength and skills to secure a win of 6.5-41 to 15.1-102. Bailey Humphrey kicked 3 goals, Trent Elliott with 2 and Brayden Woolridge had 1. Trent Elliott, Dylan Walker, Dale Morris, Shawn Andueza, Lachlan Hewitt and Josh Sharp were all Burras’ top performers.
This week Warburton-Millgrove play on ANZAC day against Healesville, at Healesville. A special day and back to tradition against a good rival.
