Another Saturday with perfect conditions for community sport as the two Tigers clashed when Woori Yallock took on Upwey-Tecoma.
The under-18 boys started the day with a commanding performance against Upwey-Tecoma. Upwey started well but as soon as the dew dried the Woori Tigers went to work and ran away with a solid win. Woori Yallock 14.23, 107 defeated Upwey-Tecoma 2.5, 17. Woori’s best were Archie Spencer, Ronan Taylor, Max Rees, Hunter Ryan, Tyler Ormsby, James Brown with the goals coming from Taylor 4, Rees 3, Roy Ray 2 and Matthew Cotton, Noah Dare, Jack Freedman, Ryan and Spencer with one apiece.
In the Reserves against a strong Upwey-Tecoma outfit, the Woori Tigers made another step forward and while the scoreboard clearly favoured Upwey, the Woori boys are starting to find more winning moments on the field. Woori Yallock 5.3, 33 defeated by Upwey-Tecoma 17.8, 110. Woori’s best were Leigh Van der vlugt, Matthew Cliff, Gabriel Conboy, Chris Lower, Luke Cottier and Hamish Gemmill and goalckickers were Jack Collette 2 and Cam Bell, Ryley Dare and Thomas Rogers each with one.
In the Seniors game, it was an exciting match of the day where everyone got their money’s worth.
Upwey got on top early in the midfield, Raru and Wicks damaging, and the Upwey-Tecoma Tigers were incredibly accurate kicking 11 goals straight, while Woori was a bit wasteful going forward.
The second half turned into an arm wrestle with Upwey-Tecoma having the upper hand in a tight contest right up until the last 10 minutes when Woori changed the momentum and hit the scoreboard with five quick goals. In the end, it was a good win for the Woori Tigers against a strong Upwey-Tecoma team, final scores Woori Yallock 16.15, 111 defeated Upwey-Tecoma 14.7, 91. Woori’s best were Joshua Neal, Kane Thompson, Blake Muir, Kynan French, Jason Lindgren and Bailey Syswerda with the goals coming from Neal 5, Taylor Gibson 4, French and Thompson 2 and one each from Christian Cameron, Joel Smith and Angus Smith.
The Woori Women’s team continued its unbeaten start to the year with a powerful performance against Thornton-Eildon, beating them 11.9, 75 to 0.4, 4. Best players were Sky Wilson, Piper Crymble, Amelia Gemmill, Rachael Lee and Michelle Brown with the goalkickers being Emily Spicer 4, Amy Spicer 3 and one apiece from Jessi Adams, Jessica Lee, Anelise McCracken and Wilson.
In the netball, it was a full card at Woori which was great to see with so many supporters cheering the girls on, with mixed results throughout the grades.
17 and Under: Woori Yallock 28 drew with Berwick 28. Best players were Ella Wood, Georgia Sands and Charlotte Comport with goals coming from Sands with 25 and Comport with 3.
D Grade: Woori Yallock 23 defeated by Upwey-Tecoma 28. Best players were Narelle Collette, Rebecca Jackson and Connie Mercuri with goals from Jackson 11 and Mercuri 7.
C Grade: Woori Yallock 21 defeated by Upwey-Tecoma 49. Best players were Melanie-Rose Jakobs, Tahlia Thornton and Jessica Ford with goals coming from Ford 15, Kasie Pitts 3 and Maddison Sands 3.
B Grade: Woori Yallock 54 defeated Upwey-Tecoma 49. Best players were Tarsha Collette, Holly Dunlop and Louise Chapple with goals coming from Collette 25, Jaymee Tough 21 and Jordan Kennedy 8.
A Grade: Woori Yallock 40 defeated by Upwey-Tecoma 42. Best players were Emily Semple, Danika Corless and Gaby Clarke with goals coming from Corless 21, Tarsha Collette 18 and Chelsea Smith 1.
Next week, Woori Yallock hosts Berwick Springs for the first time in the club’s history while the Under 18s will play Healesville on Thursday morning at 9am in an Anzac Day clash.
