UPPER Yarra experts including a forensic scientist and one of Victoria’s first female electricians donated their time to give students a taste for different jobs.
Class 11 and 12 students at Little Yarra Steiner School explored more than 15 different professions from a youth worker and a mechanic, to a gardener and an engineer.
Careers teacher Lea Büchel said the students had appreciated the chance to talk with professionals about their passions.
“It was more about getting a feel for different life journeys,” she said.
“Not to find their calling but to see what’s out there.”
She said many of the students were excited to speak with Yarra Junction police officer Ben Aulich.
“The students were really pleased that Ben took the time to come out and talk to them,” she said.
“The Defence Force was also popular as we have a few cadets in the school, and the international volunteering was good for students who are thinking about a gap year.”
