Seniors get grant boost

WARBURTON Community Bank announced the recipients of its latest round of community grants at a ceremony at the Warburton Senior Citizens last week.
Eleven Upper Yarra community, school and sporting groups have received funding for a wide range of education, arts and building maintenance and renovation projects.
Secretary and treasurer of Warburton Community Financial Services, Geoff Vickers, said he was pleased to see the grants going to a broad cross-section of the community.
“This funding round, the second for the financial year, has seen primary school age children, right through to senior citizens, benefit,” he said.
The Warburton Advancement League received funding to construct a war memorial in Millgrove, and Warburton Highway Tourism received funding to print a series of maps for visitors to the area.
Education grants included funding for the Yarra Junction Primary School to run its Read to Succeed program, Upper Yarra Secondary College received funding for its chaplaincy service, and the Cerini Centre received funds for building maintenance.
The Upper Yarra Youth Theatre received funding for artistic direction and Warburton’s Winterfest received funding for the staging of this year’s festival.
Other recipients included the Warburton Senior Citizens, which received funding to install air-conditioning and for the purchase of walking frames, and the Warburton RSL received a grant for renovations to their facilities.
The Warburton Millgrove Sports Club received funding for painting works and risk-management renovations at the sports complex.
Club treasurer Rob Morter said he was delighted to be part of the latest funding round.
“We are over the moon. The bank have been very supportive of local institutions and it is wonderful to see the level of support they are giving to the community,” he said.
