A YEAR after the death of long-serving Healesville police Sergeant Tony van Gorp the inquest brief prepared by police is ready to be presented to the Coroner.
Sgt van Gorp was found dead at Healesville police station on the night of Monday 22 March 2010 by colleagues.
Victoria Police later confirmed that a gun was found at the scene and that there were no suspicious circumstances. It was stated he had taken his own life.
Homicide Squad Detective Sergeant Peter Trichias, who is heading up the investigation and preparation of the report, told the Mail yesterday (Monday) that the inquest brief was ready to go to the Coroner but said he was unable to give a definite date at this stage.
Mr van Gorp’s partner, Gayle Shelley, and his brother Fred van Gorp told the Mail they would like to see the Coroner’s report finalised quickly.
“We would like the (Coroner’s) report to come out as soon as possible so we can resolve the circumstances around Tony’s death.
“With that, we hope we can then honour him in some way in the future for all the work he did in the local community.
“It would be good for some of these things to be resolved, but you can’t force them,” Ms Shelley said.
“I am hoping for Tony’s sake that it can be resolved soon.”
