YARRA Junction Medical Centre has recently welcomed two new doctors to join the team.
With 25 years of service to the area, the centre caters to patients with a wide range of medical care.
There are now six doctors servicing the Upper Yarra, along with two psychologists, Dorovitch Pathology, a podiatrist and physiotherapist within the building.
Dr Raza Shabbir and Dr Champa Cooray have been welcomed into the general practice team.
Both of them have previous experience in emergency medicine.
Dr Cooray has been with the medical centre since December last year and spent nine years working in Maroondah Hospital.
She said she has enjoyed developing relationships with patients and believes patients with chronic illness should stay with the one doctor.
“This means their care can be consistent.
If they have asthma or high cholesterol their doctor can make a plan for dealing with that,” she said.
“We also have a good anti-smoking group here and have helped many people to quit.”
Flu vaccines are now available for people over the age of 65 or those with a chronic illness.
Dr Cooray said flu vaccines definitely help cut down on illnesses over the winter months.
“It’s important to try and avoid the flu wherever possible, and keep well.
“If you do get sick stay home and don’t spread it around.”
Yarra Junction Medical Centre is open 9am to 6pm from Monday to Friday at 2454 Warburton Highway.
Appointments can be made on 5967 1606.
