US bound Bonnie

By Kath Gannaway
PINT-SIZED Yarra Glen singer/songwriter Bonnie Anderson is set to take on the world.
Bonnie, who won Australia’s Got Talent as a 12-year-old in 2007, will leave for America in March to sing with the Jackson Browne band at the funky Dance Society in Los Angeles.
She will also do other gigs and concentrate on her songwriting.
Viewers fell in love with the engaging, giggly and enormously talented Bonnie, who at the time said the $250,000 would be a great backstop as she pursued her dream of becoming an actress and singer.
Having completed Year 10 at Mount Lilydale Mercy College last year, she said she feels the time is right to follow her dream.
“I had thought about staying until Year 12, but this is what I want to do,” she said.
“This is the career I have chosen and it is going good so far. The time feels right; things keep popping up and it’s all starting to happen.”
Bonnie had a bit of a break after the AGT experience and started songwriting last year, learning guitar and piano, recorded an EP of her songs and sang with her own (Bonnie Anderson) band.
She describes her style as soul/pop/rhythm and blues with the occasional jazz covers.
It’s hard work for a 16-year-old, but there is no doubt she is driven by her passion for music.
“Mum will be coming over with me, and I am tremendously excited with my plans and to be going to America,” she said.
“I think it was good to have the break and grow up a bit, but now I’m 100 per cent ready to take on the world.”
She is still giggly, but with an unmistakable edge of self assurance.
