YARRA GLEN’S Christmas Race meet and its 3000 pre booked punters shifted to Pakenham’s Racing Track last week.
With the Yarra Valley track still soaked and under water, they were left with no choice but to hold the event at another location.
After looking at several tracks to host the event, Pakenham Racecourse won the right to hold the day on their turf.
And they didn’t disappoint.
It was the biggest day the Pakenham Racecourse had seen, with lawn space and marquees at capacity with cheery punters and fashionistas all afternoon.
With fine weather most of the day, even brief late showers did not deter the packed racing crowd.
Cranbourne trainers had a day out claiming seven of the 10 races, with two Mornington trainers and one local trainer rounding out the day’s winners.
Another George won the 1300m Sticks Yarra Valley Maiden Plate, with Fossicking and He’s Fab finishing in second and third respectively.
The event was well backed by local trainers even before the day, with more than 30 local horses nominated for the 10-race event – with some races boasting an astounding 50 nominations.
The Pakenham Racing Club will now focus on its next scheduled meet, the Picnic Racing Day on New Year’s Day.
