UPPER Yarra’s artisans have been sharing their skills this year as teachers for the University of the Third Age (U3A).
Joseph Guthrie took a class in pastels and was amazed at the skills he learnt.
“I’d never picked up a pastel in my life,” he says.
Mr Guthrie says it was fascinating how the class of 10 would sometimes begin with the same subject – but each would have a unique finish.
Artisan organiser Helen Clancy, who is also teaching pottery in the U3A, says the group has been lucky to hold several exhibitions in the Upper Yarra Arts Centre over the last 12 months.
Nineteen artisans have gathered their wares for the final exhibition of 2010.
Their Christmas Wrap Up includes paintings, pastels, chalk, photographs, sculptures, silk dresses, pottery and jewellery.
The exhibition is a unique selection of original, affordable artworks and handcrafted items produced by local artisans.
The Upper Yarra Artisans Christmas Wrap Up is on at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre until 22 December.
