American Guests
MESSRS. Harvie Bros, had arranged with Miss Glover at Gracedale House to film the arrival of the medical officers of the American fleet.
About 20 cars conveyed the visitors to the guest house where luncheon was served. Visits were then made to the Institute of Australian Zoology at Badger Creek, the Maroondah Dam works, Gracedale Weir and other places of interests. After lunch the visitors were taken to Black’s Spur and returned to Melbourne shortly afterwards.
Tourism
A VERY attractive and distinctive notice board designed and constructed by Mr. L. G. Norman to the order of the Healesville Tourism and Progress Association has been erected at the railway station. It is in the form of a big arm, with the index finger of the hand directing the way to the town.
Deputation to Council
A DEPUTATION consisting of several residents of Heath Road waited on the Healesville Council at its last meeting and urged that improvements be made to certain sections of the road. One particular bad patch was at Trewin’s end where the grade was one in six and was impassable for about 50 yards.
The Council had plans to metal the road but at the present time the Council could not afford to spend fifty pounds ($100) on the road.

RoundUp
MR. LES Freitag of Big Pat’s Creek submitted the successful tender for the old Big Pat’s Creek State School. Mr Freitag who recently retired from the Victoria Police Force, intends to demolish the building. World famous pianist Winifred Atwell paid an unexpected visit to Warburton last Sunday.
Her visit was unheralded but word soon got out and she was besieged with enthusiastic autograph hunters when she left the Alpine Retreat Hotel.
Snow
WARBURTON was a hive of activity last weekend with hundreds of day trippers who made their journey to the snowcapped mountain of Donna Buang. Traffic was so heavy on Sunday that police found it necessary to close the road at the turntable at Cement Creek. Many snow seekers were compelled to walk miles or return home disappointed.
