Finding fun in the Yarra Ranges for the rest of the school holidays

With the hubbub of Christmas and New Years over but the return to school still weeks away, ideas to keep kids occupied can be running thin but here’s a list of local events happening across the Yarra Ranges to add to the to-do list.

Take part in the free NGV Kids on Tour by visiting the Yarra Ranges Regional Museum, The Memo in Healesville or Arts Centre Warburton.

A range of activities can be enjoyed from paper sculpture making to poem writing and creature creation until 29 January.

Learn from Mount Evelyn based beekeeper Holly when she runs a session on Thursday 12 December at the Karwarra Gardens located within the Kalorama Memorial Reserve.

Children can learn about insect habitats and what plants are best to welcome bees and insects into the garden, as well as creating their own insect habitat to take home.

Celebrate Penguin Awareness Day at Mooroolbark Library on 20 January as the staff host a penguin inspired story time and movie screening of Oddball.

At Montrose Library, children aged nine to 13 can check out the Minecraft coding workshop on Thursday 19 January or create their on comic book on Tuesday 24 January (suitable for ages six to 18).

Design and create your very own bookmark using the newly acquired Cricut machines at Lilydale Library on Wednesday 25 January.

With so much to do, it’s hard to know where to start.
