LEARN to draw like da Vinci, master a computer like Bill Gates, or decorate a cake like Nigella.
Seville Community House caters for learning of all types, at all ages.
From playgroup and junior music classes for the young, to walking groups and cooking classes for the young at heart, the house has a range of inspiring and social classes.
Seville Community House co-ordinator Mandi Goosen says it’s not too late to book in for term four programs, which are beginning during the week of 11 October.
Those with a creative flair can discover how to make soap, soy candles or romano cheese.
There is a large range of health and wellbeing classes, including the latest craze of zumba, as well as pilates and yoga.
Mandi says hatha yoga is perfect for those who are arthritic with its gentle flowing movements.
“It’s good for people who want to do something but have limited ability,” she says.
There are several Christmas-inspired classes, including decorating Christmas cup cakes and learning how to make beautiful and professional Christmas cards.
Seville Community House offers a variety of nationally-accredited certificates for those wanting to be a part of the food and beverage industry.
Responsible Serving of Alcohol and Responsible Service of Gaming are required to work behind bars or where gaming machines are located, and Level 1 Food Safety is designed for people who want to work with food hospitality, community and health services, and food processing and packaging industries.
Mandi says the non-profit organisation tries to keep all their classes low cost so they can keep the community house running.
“The social interaction is so valuable within the community, for years people have been learning new skills here,” she says.
“Some people just pop in for a chat and a cuppa, while others volunteer with us to help keep the place looking good.”
She says the younger generations can enjoy a variety of facilitated or parent-run playgroup classes, as well as a fun and energetic music and dance class. “There’s also a parents support group for teenagers, seeking solutions to challenging teenage behaviour,” she says.
The community house has been open since 1985, and used to be the principal’s house for Seville Primary School.
Located on 8 Railway Road in Seville, the community house is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm, with weekend and evening classes as well. To find out more about this term’s classes, email sevcomh@bigpond.net.au or call 5964 3987.
